If You Need Home Care Services
How often will I be billed for home care services?
Self-pay clients are billed a week in advance. Clients receiving services through the CFC program are not billed.
If I stop services after paying, can I get a refund?
Yes, self-pay clients are eligible for a refund unless there is a balance owed.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept checks, debit cards, and credit cards. We also accept Medicaid.
Is a deposit required before services begin?
Yes. If paying by credit card, a two-week deposit is required (with a 3% processing fee). If paying by check, a one-month advance payment is required.
Are there differences in services between private pay and CFC clients?
Yes. Private pay clients can receive companionship, supervision, home exercise assistance, emotional support, recreational activities, and technology support. CFC clients have limitations on what services caregivers can provide under the program.
What services do caregivers provide?
Our caregivers assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs), including light housekeeping, meal preparation, hands-on assistance with eating, bathing, hygiene, toileting, dressing, medication reminders, and scheduling and accompanying transportation. Caregivers must clock out when a client leaves for an appointment and can clock back in upon the client’s return.
If You Want a Family Member or Friend to Be Your Caregiver
Can a family member or friend be my caregiver?
Yes, under the Community First Choice (CFC) program, eligible individuals can hire a family member or friend to provide care. You can learn more about eligibility criteria on our CFC Services page.
Do family caregivers need training?
Yes. All caregivers, including family caregivers, must complete an orientation and have CPR/first aid certification. Our RNs may provide additional training specific to the client’s needs.
What is the relationship between CFC and HCBS?
Community First Choice (CFC) is part of the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) program, which consists of three categories: Community Personal Assistance Services (CPAS), Community First Choice (CFC), and the Community Options (CO) waiver.
If You’re Looking for a Career in Home Care
What qualifications do caregivers need?
We require caregivers or PCAs (Personal Care Aides) to have CPR/first aid certification and a clean background check. For HHAs (Home Health Aides), CNAs (Certified Nursing Assistants), RNs (Registered Nurses), or CMTs (Certified Medication Technicians or Med Tech), we also require their corresponding certification.
What is the difference between a PCA and an HHA?
In Maryland, a Personal Care Aide (PCA) focuses on non-medical support like personal care and household tasks.
A Home Health Aides (HHA) can provide medical assistance. They require more training, including medical tasks like medication administration, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN).
Do you offer caregiver training?
Yes. All caregivers receive up to four hours of training from our RNs.
If I have prior experience, do I still need to complete training?
Yes. All staff must complete training to comply with state regulations. Training is provided at our office or in the client’s home if necessary to meet their needs.
How often are caregivers paid?
Caregivers are paid weekly.
What benefits do caregivers receive?
We offer weekly pay, vision and dental insurance, a 401K plan, and ancillary benefits, including voluntary life insurance, pet insurance, short-term and long-term disability, and supplemental insurance. Medical insurance will be available soon.
